Wikimedia Commons, an image and media repository owned by the Wikimedia Foundation which also operates Wikipedia, was temporarily restricted by the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo). The restriction was a result of the ministry's automated detection systems erroneously identifying the platform's content as related to gambling. This misclassification prompted Kominfo to impose limitations on access to Wikimedia Commons. Following clarification and identification of the error, the ministry lifted the restrictions, allowing users in Indonesia to regain access to the platform. This incident highlights challenges in automated content regulation and the risk of unintended censorship through misdetection processes by regulatory agencies.
